McAllen’s Juneteenth celebration to be held at historic site

Rio Grande Valley residents are invited to attend the Annual Juneteenth Observance on Monday, June 19,2023 at 9:30 a.m. at the Texas Historic Bethel Garden, the former site of the Bethel Mis s i o n ary Baptist Church at 1322 South 16th Street in McAllen. This year’s celebration, entitled “Reimagining Togetherness,” is being hosted by the City of McAllen and Friends of Bethel Garden.

Ed C. Smith Lifetime Achievement Award winner

Leon De Leon was honored with the Ed C. Smith Lifetime Achievement Award by the South Texas Funeral Directors Association. This award, named after the Texas Funeral Directors Association’s first president in 1886, is presented to a funeral director who has made a significant impact on funeral service and has been actively involved in their community. The recipient must be a longstanding member of the Texas Funeral Directors Association and has been a licensed funeral director for at least 40 years.
