Pharr EDC earns Community Economic Development Award at conference

The Pharr Economic Development Corporation (EDC) earned the Community Economic Development Award (CEDA) for Secondary Benefits for their Interlocal Agreement with the City of Pharr for the TEAMPHARR.NET Broadband Project. The award was presented during the Texas Economic Development Council’s (TEDC) 2022 Annual Conference held on October 20th in San Antonio, Texas.

Region One ESC awarded federal grant to prepare at-risk students for post-secondary opportunities

The Region One Education Service Center (ESC) Office of College, Career and Life Readiness has been awarded the US Department of Education Upward Bound Math and Science grant for Fiscal Year 2022. The office received notice on Oct. 7 of its selection to receive a little over $1.4 million in a five-year period. The funds will help support the Upward Bound Math and Science Program, providing fundamental assistance to underserved high school students and their families through academic instruction and economic literacy services.

Brownsville parrot dies while croaking “Play Ball”

In the Valley, we are blessed that we wake up to the many sounds of nature. The sounds you hear every morning depends on what part of the RGV you call home. In Brownsville, the distinct sounds of the animals from Gladys Porter Zoo can be heard from long distances. From other areas, the cries from the kitchen coop are still as vivid today as they were in the early days. The sounds of stray dogs and cats are likely never to go away either.
