Carpenter bees are huge insects

Looking around my yard some more this week, I can’t help but enjoy the Esperanzas growing along our fence. It’s become a popular plant in Texas gardens. In the old days, the native Indians made bows from its wood. In Mexico, both beer and herbal medicines were once prepared from the roots of the beautiful Esperanza.

Edinburg City Council appoints Myra L. Ayala as city manager

EDINBURG — During the April 19th regularly scheduled Edinburg City Council meeting, the Mayor and Council named Myra L. Ayala as Edinburg’s next City Manager. Ayala has been serving as the city’s Interim City Manager since March 1. She was first hired by the city of Edinburg in August of 1998 and has served in multiple capacities including Senior Secretary, Records Supervisor, Director of Business Operations & Marketing for the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation, and City Secretary.

Congressman Gonzalez announces over $313M to help lower energy costs

McALLEN — Last Friday, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the State of Texas has received $313,713,228 in federal funding to help bring down energy costs for working families. Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and American Rescue Plan Act that Congressman Gonzalez voted to pass, these funds can be used to slash South Texans’ energy bills, provide crisis assistance, and help weatherize homes.
