Let’s just say it’s been a while since I took to the skies — way too long for a lot of reasons. Mainly life, I suppose, handling the newspaper business, caring for aging parents. Too may things took precedence over the one thing I truly love: flying.
AUSTIN — As the Third called Special Session of the 87th Texas Legislature came to an end Oct. 19, Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa co-authored Senate Bill 8, legislation that will provide funding for projects in the Rio Grande Valley, Senate Bill 52 which invests in our universities, and Senate Joint Resolution 2 which would provide additional property tax relief for homeowners, if approved by the voters in May 2022.
EDINBURG — The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) recently awarded funding to the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library under its Texas Reads Grant program. The program awarded, Storytelling & Story Reading 101 will provide a series of professional development workshops, for staff working with children and young adults by a professional storyteller. Attendees will learn and develop storytelling techniques using their voice, props, puppets, etc. The objective is to create and inspire future generations to love to read, thus creating a more literate community.
Topeka, and her brother Kansas, are a couple of energetic 4-month-old Shepherd cross puppies. Both are good-looking dogs, full of enthusiasm for life and affection for people. Now that they’ve been spayed and neutered, they’re ready for forever homes where they can make each day happier for their lucky new people.
