City of McAllen Health & Code Enforcement to begin mosquito spraying

The City of McAllen Environmental Health and Code Enforcement Department is controlling mosquito populations in the community by bringing increased focus to eliminating standing water, preventing mosquito larvae from hatching and mosquito spraying. The City of McAllen Health Department has surveyed McAllen neighborhoods to identify and treat areas of standing water that can serve as prime locations for mosquitoes to lay their eggs. Elimination of standing stagnant water is the ultimate goal, but in places where puddles exist, the water can be treated to kill mosquito larvae with a chemical called larvicide, continuing to larvicide locations to eliminate mosquito breeding.

Pharr takes lead in creation and passage of bills to enhance bridge funding

PHARR - The City of Pharr has successfully led the efforts for the passage of House Bill 2843 / Senate Bill 1334 in the Texas Legislature, a bill that addresses funding mechanisms to invest in our ports of entry infrastructure. Today, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed the bill into law, a bill that is effective immediately and will benefit both cityand county-owned ports of entry like the Pharr International Bridge. Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa and State Representative Terry Canales both worked with the City of Pharr to get the bill passed through their respective chambers.

Family violence victims would be freed from having their cell phone numbers controlled by violent abusers under House Bill 1372, authored by Rep. R.D. “Bobby” Guerra, D-McAllen, that was approved – without opposition – on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 by the Texas Legislature.
