WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that H.R. 6800, House Democrats’ newly introduced stimulus package entitled The Heroes Act would provide approximately $1,230,765,515 in federal COVID-19 relief funding to cities and counties throughout the 15th District of Texas. These funds can be used for COVID-related expenses, to replace foregone revenues not projected on January 31, 2020, or to respond to negative economic effects of COVID. Funds would be available until expended, providing flexibility over the next several years.
McALLEN – As the City of McAllen continues to move forward with the Bicentennial Boulevard road extension project, storm sewer installation construction will cause a road closure along Northgate Lane.
EDINBURG – As the number of people overall who have been tested in Hidalgo County surpassed the 7,000 mark, an additional eight people in Hidalgo County tested positive for COVID-19, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Monday. This brings the total number of known cases of the virus to 448.
Pharr Police Chief Jose Luengo was suspended last week for three days without pay. City officials have declined to say what led to the chief’s suspension, which is standard protocol in such matters (no comment). EDINBURG – In addition to Governor Greg Abbott’s mandate that 100 percent of residents and staff of nursing homes in Texas get tested for the COVID-19 virus, state officials will begin ramping up testing in Hidalgo County significantly beginning on Wednesday, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Tuesday.
