Free income tax preparation services for qualifying taxpayers at PSJA ISD

PHARR — The United Way Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is now offering free income tax preparation at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA) locations to families earning less than $60,000 a year. Due to new health and safety measures implemented, these services will be offered by appointment only.

DHR Health Involved in Mayo-Clinic-Coordinated Study

Edinburg, TX (February 16, 2021) – As the number of patients with COVID-19 continues to increase nationally, DHR Health Institute for Research and Development, which is affiliated with DHR Health, is pursuing innovative ways to treat patients infected with the potentially life-threatening disease. Through this study, first coordinated by the Mayo Clinic, DHR Health continues to provide convalescent-plasma therapy to patients in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) hospitalized with severe COVID-19.

City of Pharr approved as vaccine provider

PHARR – The City of Pharr received exciting news today as it was approved by the State of Texas as the first city in Hidalgo County to become a COVID-19 vaccine provider. As a vaccine recipient from the Federal government, the State of Texas may distribute vaccines directly to the city. Additional Hidalgo County Hub providers like UTRGV, Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, and Hidalgo County Health Department can now transfer vaccines directly to the City of Pharr for dissemination.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar distributes $1.05 billion in Monthly Sales Tax Revenue to local governments

AUSTIN - Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $1.05 billion in local sales tax allocations for February, 0.7 percent more than in February 2020. These allocations are based on sales made in December by businesses that report tax monthly; October, November and December sales by quarterly filers; and 2020 sales by businesses that report tax annually. And in case you're interested in how other Texas cities compared for the same reporting period, February 2020 vs. February 2021, Austin was down 4.67 percent, Brownsville down 2.71 percent, Dallas up 1.91 percent, El Paso down .66 percent, Houston down 3.72 percent, Laredo down .91 percent, and San Antonio up .52 percent.
