EDINBURG – In an effort to relieve shelter space, Palm Valley Animal Society is launching the Spring Clearing the Shelter Event where all adoption fees for cats and dogs WILL BE WAIVED.
PHARR – City officials here today welcomed U.S. Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, along with 19 key United States senators from across the country, to get a firsthand view of Pharr's International Bridge, which recently received a Presidential Permit amendment approved by the White House for the second span expansion of the bridge. This visit marks the first time in Pharr's history that so many federal legislators visited Pharr at once, indicating the interest and awareness that has been brought to our area with the city emerging as a distinct leader in international trade. The senators were in South Texas for a congressional delegation (CoDel) visit, touring cities along the border to discuss issues related to immigration and international trade. The delegation received briefings from local city Mayors, law enforcement officials, and local organizations. While much national attention has recently focused on issues related to immigration along the border, local leaders wanted to emphasize to the federal legislators in attendance that though this remains an important aspect of border issues, international trade and commerce along the southern border continue to thrive and drive the local, state, and national economy. In Pharr, the senators were given an overview of the increase in international trade and commerce along the southern border, especially due to programs spearheaded by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Pharr.
WASHINGTON – The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/ NCAL), representing more than 14,000 nursing homes and long term care facilities across the country that provide care to approximately five million people each year, released a report today showing nursing homes in the U.S. continue to see a rapid decline in new COVID-19 cases thanks to initial vaccine allocations prioritized for nursing homes and called on Congress to consider the industry’s Care For Our Seniors Act to address systemic issues facing the nursing home sector and prevent another COVIDtype crisis.

It’s that time of the year once again! Spring has sprung and Keep McAllen Beautiful is spring cleaning the city of McAllen. Keep McAllen Beautiful (KMB) is organizing its annual Great American Clean-Up and Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off, but with a different twist this year. Due to the pandemic, there will not be a mass gathering in the park; instead, KMB is asking interested individuals to gather their favorite 5-10 people and create a small group to do a litter clean-up around town.
