The McAllen Police Department, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation and other Hidalgo County law enforcement agencies, will be participating in the Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) campaign, from Friday, December 18, 2020 until Friday, January 1, 2021 with a goal to promote safe driving with its educational and enforcement efforts.
PHARR – At a press conference held on Thursday, December 17, Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez was on hand as the Pharr Police Department announced the launch of its Mental Health Unit. The press event was held during a Mental Health Officer Training, which members of the Pharr Police Force are undergoing this week to become licensed as Mental Health Officers. With this training and certification, officers will be better equipped with the knowledge, understanding, and tools necessary to respond appropriately to calls of individuals in crisis that might have underlying health issues, ultimately working to de-escalate potentially harmful situations, find the individuals the support and treatment they need, and keep them from repeat cycling in and out of the jail and judicial system.
