Hidalgo County D.A. urges victims of family violence to seek help

EDINBURG – Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez Jr. on Friday urged victims of domestic violence to seek help and to know they are not alone. “It is important for victims to know that leaving an abusive relationship does not equal safety,” said DA Rodriguez. “Victims need to speak to a Victim Advocate to get a safety plan. Statistics have shown that the time when the victim leaves is the most dangerous time, and violence tends to escalate and can become lethal. It is imperative that the victim speak to a Victim Advocate that will help develop a personalized safety plan and explain what legal options and resources are available for the victim to leave an abusive relationship in the safest manner possible. There are many agencies in Hidalgo County that are providing help for victims of domestic violence,” said Rodriguez.
