Chainsaw Man gets busted

Daniel Peña, 44, probably woke up last Friday morning never thinking he’d be in police custody that afternoon, but such is life. Now known across social media as “Chainsaw Man,” Peña made the mistake last Friday of accosting peaceful protesters in downtown McAllen who were marching in support of Black Lives Matter. His fate may not have proven as bad as it did if Peña hadn’t made the mistake of pulling a chainsaw from his company pickup, revving up the saw, and yelling repeatedly at the marchers: “Go home. Don’t let those f###ing n###ers out there control you. This is the Valley.”

Hidalgo Commissioners Court increases allotment of federal COVID-19 funds for local municipalities and rural areas

EDINBURG – The Hidalgo County Commissioners Court voted unanimously on Tuesday to raise the amount of federal relief funds it is allotting to the 22 municipalities in the county. Each city will receive an allotment at a rate of $132 per capita with $18 of those dollars to be held in reserve for unforeseen future needs related to the pandemic. That means that each municipality and the unincorporated areas of Hidalgo County will receive an immediate allotment of $114 per capita. Each municipality and the rural areas shall receive the money at the same per capita rate.
