Six firefighters under quarantine Fire chief acts decisively

Hidalgo County Commissioners Court suspends operations starting 3/30

EDINBURG –Hidalgo County Commissioners Court voted unanimously on Tuesday to suspend normal operations beginning Monday, March 30 because of “events beyond the control of the County,” related to the pandemic of COVID-19. The order will remain in effect until Monday, April 27. The suspension of normal operations includes a provision in which county elected officials and department heads will determine how many employees must stay – and which ones – so that the essential functions of county government may continue. County officials are using guidelines provided by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and other resources in assessing critical functions.

Rep. Cuellar’s statement on the U.S.-Mexico border closing to non-essential travel

LAREDO – Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX- 28) released the following statement on President Trump’s announcement that the U.S.-Mexico border will close to non-essential travel to limit the spread of coronavirus. “Non-essential travel” includes travel that is considered tourism or recreational in nature.
