JOSEFINA G. NEVAREZ
SAN JUAN – Josefina G. Nevarez, 77, went home to the Lord Sunday, January 24, 2021, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, TX.
Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Josefina lived in San Juan for most of her life. She was a lifetime member of Iglesia Pentecostes Independiente El Poder De Dios. Josefina is going to be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Gaitan and Isabel Torres Gaitan, her sister Juana Saldivar, her husband Jaime Nevarez, Sr. and her son Jesus Nevarez.
Josefina professed her life to Christ at the age of 40. She is a pillar of Iglesia Pentecostes Independiente El Poder De Dios. She loved working in the church and cherished praising the Lord. She loved to read her bible, praying for and with others. She was known as a “prayer warrior.” She enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, laughing, and always praising the Lord. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, friend and would always share the gospel and the love of God with others. “To know her was to love her.”
Josefina is survived by three children, Javier (Noemi) Nevarez of Williamsburg, IA, Claudia N. (Jaime) Ybarra of Edinburg, TX, Jaime (Blanca) Nevarez Jr. of Pharr, TX; seven grandchildren, Jesse Nevarez, Valerie Nevarez, Jacqueline Ybarra, Jason Ybarra, Ashley Nevarez, Albert Nevarez, Moises Nevarez; two great-grandchildren, Mason Zuniga, Alania Zuniga; a brother, Manuel (Maria) Gaitan from Ogden, UT; and six sisters, Hermelinda Hernandez from Lake Providence, LA, Maria D. Vasquez from Donna, TX, Maria Cecilia (Ramiro) Hernandez from Mission, TX, Francisca (Adelaido) Olivares from Donna, TX, Alicia (Javier) Cordova from Ogden, UT, Isabel (Juan) Celestino from Willard, UT, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. prayer service Thursday, January 28, 2021, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan, TX. Funeral service took place at 10 a.m., Friday, January 29, 2021, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan, TX. Interment followed at Donna City Cemetery.
