When I was a teenager in Landover Hills, Maryland I hiked to the Greyhound Bus stop every morning to collect newspapers dropped off from Richmond, Virginia for a small paper route I ran for a few conservatives in the area. The Richmond News Leader was an unusual rag that practiced the old style of reporting. Instead of announcing that some leader had said “that” followed by an opinionated summary, every article presented paragraph after paragraph of actual quotes. I’ve never seen a paper like it before or since. The slightly less conservative Washington Star couldn’t hold a candle to it.
