To the Editor:As much as I have good memories of growing up in Pharr, I also have some bad memories.Like the day when a good friend of mine nicknamed “El surdo” (because he was left-handed) died from an overdose of heroin in the alley behind his house. He wanted to hang out with the bad kids, and they challenged him to inject the “tecate,' and he did, but the heroin was too pure so he overdosed right away.
