Losing Your Confidence? (Part I of III)

How do you lose your confidence? How do you keep it? I remember the picture of the pastor and his wife on television and in the newspapers some time back – seated at the funeral of their five children, all of them killed in one automobile crash. I wondered, “What are they thinking? How could such a thing happen to one family? What will this do to their confidence in God and themselves?” A letter to a pastor said, “My wife and I are believers. We have an only child. Last week, he was murdered. We wrestle with our faith and see no sense in it. We wonder what to think.” I lose my confidence when I lose my Godly perspective. When I let the demands of the world flood my heart and mind and push my spiritualness into a small corner of my life, I tend to lose my confidence. When my perspective of life is distorted away from God toward my worldly cares and trials, I tend to lose my confidence. For a short period of time the great prophet Elijah lost his perspective concerning God, and consequently, his confidence. Elijah towered above them all, with a passionate and fiery heart for God that was never equaled by the other prophets. He was a man of integrity who stood steadfast for the Lord God Almighty. Next time: Elijah confronts the pagan priests in Israel and Queen Jezebel confronts Elijah, considered, in part II of “Losing Your Confidence?” Like us at Facebook: firstchristianchurchdonnatexas.
