Last week the president gave a televised address stating that the debt ceiling compromise was less than either side wanted but was what the nation needed. He then went on to viciously attack the Republicans who had made the compromise. In doing so he completely misrepresented their positions. He revisited, for example, the moment during the State of the Union Address when Republicans booed because he had fraudulently claimed they wanted to cut Social Security and Medicare.
