When Donald Trump first became president, Kevin McCarthy called him a puppet of Vladimir Putin. Much later when the supposed insurrection took place, McCarthy stated that Trump had caused it. It’s not surprising, therefore, that a number of congressional conservatives did not trust Kevin McCarthy and opposed his election as Speaker of the House.
