Hundreds of dedicated volunteers gathered Sept. 8, for the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) 16th Annual Countdown to Zero Dropout Recovery Walk. Through this annual district initiative, dozens of volunteers walk neighborhoods to recover students not currently attending school.
In a heartfelt and unanimous decision, the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) Board of Trustees voted to rename Alamo Middle School to “Jesus “Jesse” Vela Middle School,” celebrating a lifetime of dedication and service Vela has bestowed upon the district and the community. The unanimous vote was made during a regular school board meeting held Sept. 11.
Last month, the Advance News Journal requested campaign finance reports dating back to Jan. 1, 2022 through late August 2023 from four local school districts: PSJA ISD, Edinburg CISD, La Joya ISD, and Weslaco ISD.
The Pharr San Juan Alamo ISD Board of Trustees signed a resolution to proclaim September 11 as a Day of Service and Remembrance during a regular school board meeting held Aug. 21.
