Special to the AdvanceSAN JUAN — In a heartfelt and unanimous decision, the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) Board of Trustees voted to rename Alamo Middle School to “Jesus “Jesse” Vela Middle School,” celebrating a lifetime of dedication and service Vela has bestowed upon the district and the community. The unanimous vote was made during a regular school board meeting held Sept. 11.Jesus “Jesse” Vela Jr. has a rich history with PSJA ISD, having served in a series of significant roles including teacher, coach, administrator, and as a respected member and president of the School Board of Trustees.
