Selber earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism and master’s degree in media studies, both from Texas Christian University. He earned a Ph.D. in communication from The University of Texas at Austin. Selber published his 460-page historical survey of Valley sports book, Border Ball: The History of High School Football in the Rio Grande Valley in 2009.
