In last week's front-page story, I wrote about how a group called Save the San Juan Hotel, led by UTRGV Associate Professor of Mexican American Studies Stephanie Alvarez, is claiming that the historic San Juan Hotel was the site of many lynchings of Mexican Americans and home to Tom Mayfield, a lawman who served Hidalgo County for many decades before passing away in 1966.
The Mission Economic Development Corporation relaunched its Ruby Red Ventures-The Competition, a small business program that has already awarded over $1.1 million to Mission entrepreneurs and now offers participants the chance to win up to $25,000 in seed funding.

The Advance News Journal is offering $1,000 to anyone who can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the racist, violent allegations now being directed at the old historic San Juan Hotel (mass lynchings) are actually true.
