Vanguard Beethoven Orchestra Double Bass Ensemble selected for State Performance

The Vanguard Beethoven Orchestra Double Bass Ensemble was selected as one of only two ensembles from across Texas to perform at the 2023 “Texas Orchestra Directors Association” Summer Convention in San Antonio on July 21. The selection process consisted of an application and video submission of the ensemble that were evaluated by a judging panel. This is the first year that TODA has invited student groups to perform. The double bassists, who range from 4th - 10th grade, will play their program for teachers from across the state. The Vanguard Orchestra program began in 2019 and is under the direction of Cristina Amorim and Adriana Rodriguez.

Rembrandt Secondary Makes History as first Male and first Female Student Athlete to Sign Letter of Intent!

On Friday, May 19, 2023, surrounded by family, friends, and administrators, Osvaldo Martinez, a senior at Vanguard Rembrandt Secondary, signed a letter of intent to represent Allan College in track and cross country. Osvaldo’s signing an athletic letter of intent is not only a goal reached by one of Rembrandt’s top athletes but also a milestone for Vanguard Academy being the first athlete to receive an athletic scholarship to continue pursuing his educational goals as part of a college’s athletic program. The signing took place during the middle school athletic celebration at Vanguard Academy Van Gogh’s soccer field. As a senior at Rembrandt Secondary, Osvaldo participated in wrestling, qualified for the state cross-country season, and was part of Rembrandt’s district championship team in soccer. He was also a key athlete for Rembrandt’s track and field district championship team where he qualified for the regional meet as one of the area’s best 800m and 1600m runners. Osvaldo addressed the middle school athletes and friends by thanking God. Osvaldo thanked also his brother for his support and expressed his gratitude to Vanguard’s superintendent, Dr. Narciso Garcia, and fellow administrators. Osvaldo thanked also his coach, Brian Yanez, Athletic Coordinator, Noe Alvarado, as well as Rembrandt’s principal, Mrs. Dina Cano for their support. All at Vanguard pray for Osvaldo’s safety and success in Kansas at Allen College.

2nd Annual GEAR UP Solar Car Competition

The 2nd Annual 5th grade Solar Car Competition was jointly hosted by Vanguard GEAR UP and UTRGV Railway at the UTRGV Engineering Building. The event brought together 5th graders from all schools in the district, challenging them to create their very own solarpowered cars. Not only did they compete within their own classrooms, but the top 3 winners from each campus also had the opportunity to face off against the top 3 winners from other district campuses.

GEARUP Parental Engagement

The Vanguard GEAR UP Project took the initiative to introduce the Families Engaging in Emotionally Healthy Lifestyles (FEEHL) program, a series of parent sessions dedicated to enriching their understanding of social-emotional learning (SEL). These sessions focus on the profound impact SEL can have on self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills within the family environment. By actively participating in the FEEHL program, parents gain valuable insights into the significance of SEL, enabling them to effectively foster their children’s social-emotional learning. Equipped with this understanding, parents can better support their children in navigating everyday challenges, leading to improved academic, professional, and social growth. The FEEHL program plays a pivotal role in creating a healthier and more harmonious family environment through the power of social-emotional learning.
