For years, Palm Valley was “that kill-shelter on Trenton.” But in the past three years, Palm Valley has transformed. No longer two different organizations, the Laurie P Andrews PAWS Center and the Trenton Center, have merged and formed Palm Valley Animal Society - or PVAS. With dedication from staff and the RGV community, as well as with partners like the Petco Foundation, Maddie’s Fund, and Best Friends Animal Society, PVAS has reached historic no-kill status. With your help, we provide medical care upon intake to all animals who enter the shelter. We are so happy to find homes for homeless pets and to save the lives of all we can. Join us in our efforts to continue to change the lives of thousands of animals each year!

Food Bank RGV needs support from the RGV in the fight against hunger

PHARR – Unfortunately, hunger impacts people in every corner of the country, including 18.1% of our neighbors in the Rio Grande Valley. And given the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and Hurricane Hanna, the Food Bank RGV has seen the demand at their weekly Drive-Thru Emergency Pantry (DTEP) distributions surge by nine fold since March 1.

On Tuesday, September 1, 2020, the issue of whether the Edinburg City Council will continue providing its annual $1 million donation to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine – which has a major component in the city – was reviewed by the mayor and four city councilmembers.
