PSJA ISD has had a capable superintendent now since late 2022 when the November school board election flipped the majority, swept out two incumbents by the largest vote disparity seen in recent years, which finally brought a decent superintendent back on board in the wake of three years of rack and ruin after Dr. Daniel King retired in late 2019.
Approximately two months ago, a story was published in The Advance that indicated that Grand Prairie ISD (Dallas metroplex) had fired former PSJA ISD Superintendent Jorge Arredondo after only two months on the job, July through September, as the district’s new supe. The vote was 4-2 to dismiss him, with one abstention.
PSJA ISD Board Candidate Victor Perez, Place 7, is running against the seat’s incumbent, Cynthia Gutierrez, but one slam made against him — he took money to support school vouchers when he ran for the State Board of Education in 2022 — simply isn’t true, he said.
PSJA ISD has a security problem, but despite two failed attempts to gain board approval to remedy the situation, Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Elias, EdD, is still stuck with 258 exterior metal doors, spread out across 23 of the district’s 48 campuses, deemed unsafe not once but twice by TEA (Texas Education Agency) auditors.
An email arrived the other day written by a woman who thinks we did a disservice to PSJA ISD’s former superintendent, Dr. Jorge Arredondo EdD, in written commentaries published recently about his trials, tribulations, and pending termination at Grand Prairie ISD after only two months on the job.
