McALLEN – The road closure that began this last Monday, February 10 and was originally scheduled to go through Monday, February 24 has now been extended until Monday, March 2, 2020, due to complications for a utility line installation. Harvey Avenue, east and west bound, between 23rd Street and Bicentennial Boulevard will remain completely closed to through traffic through March 2 for utility work. Residents will still be able to access their homes. (see enclosed map)

Assistant DA charged with making false statement tied to bribery case Attorney brother also faces charges

What a difference two years can make. Back in May of 2018, McAllen resident Cynthia Alanis was celebrating her graduation from law school (St. Mary’s University) on Facebook: “Hell yes to earning my Doctorate of Jurisprudence.” Monday, Alanis was taken into custody following the return of a federal indictment alleging she made a false statement to authorities in a bribery investigation involving alien detainee roster lists. The U.S. Attorney’s Office Southern District of Texas made the announcement via a press release Monday morning. On the same day, the Hidalgo County DA’s office issued a statement saying that Alanis is no longer employed by the county as a misdemeanor assistant DA.
