McALLEN – Ernesto Herrera, a current graduate student at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, will be sharing his expertise on keystone species (the native honeybee) at Quinta Mazatlán’s Nights at the Mansion Speaker Series. As soon as I was old enough to get a job at the age of 14, I got one. Spending money was what I wanted. My $2-a-week allowance or whatever it was just wasn’t cutting it. First job was working as a dishwasher where I learned to hate the sight of cigarette butts put out in the middle of eggs over easy. Made me want to puke, which would just have made the job that much harder.
PHARR – The City of Pharr has been working toward improving and revitalizing its downtown area. Residents have seen recent efforts including the installment of traffic medians to increase pedestrian and commuter safety and keep traffic flowing. The city also installed new left signal blinking turning lights, which are proven to improve safety and reduce traffic. The city is also making plans to see further redevelopment of certain areas of the city, including the downtown area, to encourage private investment and reinvestment of sustainable neighborhoods and businesses in the city.
