City Declares June 2023 as Elder Abuse Awareness Month
The Pharr City Commission approved a proclamation declaring June 2023 as Elder Abuse Awareness Month. Abuse of older adults and people with disabilities is a community concern, and affects men and women of all income and ability levels, all cultural and ethnic backgrounds, in all communities. The City of Pharr is working with community partners and professional groups to raise awareness about elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation. Joel Robles, City of Pharr Assistance Chief of Police, Alan Cantu with the Pharr Police Department, and members of the Pharr PD Crime Victimr’s Unit accepted the proclamation. “Elder abuse is a big problem and we are working to take care of our elderly and provide the assistance they need and accommodate them with resources,” said Mr. Cantu while addressing the commission.
