The Bible tells us that humans, like the world, are a creation of God. But what kind of god would create a world in which most humans are afraid most of the time? American humans, especially, live in fear of disease, natural disasters, war, the government, a stock market plunge, a toilet paper shortage, crime, police, other ethnicities and cultures, death, public speaking, alien abduction, snakes, spiders, and getting caught. We’re not only afraid most of the time, we’re apathetic and untrusting, too. Unless something spooks the herd, we have trouble with commitment— relationships, jobs, church, whatever.

PHARR – Continuing its mission of giving back, the PSJA Education Foundation awarded $408,105 in scholarships and teacher grants to Pharr-San Juan-Alamo (PSJA ISD) seniors and educators during the 2022-2023 school year.

Local children’s charities receive Crawfish Boil proceeds

The Crawfish Boil Foundation recently distributed $40,000 between four local children’s charities from the proceeds of their annual Crawfish Boil, held April 21, 2023, at the Payne Auto Group Rodeo Arena at the RGV Livestock Show Grounds in Mercedes. The charities: Capable Kids Foundation, Foster Angels of South Texas, Make A Wish Rio Grande Valley, and the Vannie Cook Children’s Cancer and Hematology Clinic each received $10,000 as a pledge by the CBF to donate the net proceeds from their fundraising events to support local charities who will utilize these funds in the Rio Grande Valley.

Time. It’s a fascinating subject to consider. When you start speaking to people in decades – “Isn’t it odd to think that we’ve known each other for 40 years, etc.” – you know you’ve passed the point of no return.Although, even at 45, you could say, “Hey, remember 20 years ago, etc.” Still, as the decades pile on, time tends to stand out more – “40plus years” mentioned when talking to those who have, like you, been around the corner a few times.
