County courthouse needs new set of eyes

Where exactly on last week’s Hidalgo Commissioners Court agenda the item was listed is hard to see with just a quick glance. It’s there, though, according to reliable sources, and some wording on the minutes that could or could not be about the new courthouse still under construction and the pending litigation now tied to it while the place sits idle. The Commissioners Court has apparently now approved the first steps needed to hire a third-party consultant to evaluate the project.

New county courthouse remains stuck in limbo

Hidalgo County was this close, this close to opening its new courthouse when the whole thing fell apart. Not literally, mind you, since it’s still standing, kind of, sort of, but why the county is now apparently looking at pursuing litigation against the contractor, who knows for sure. The Commissioners Court is keeping its cards close to the vest, but if it does enter into litigation, the question still remains: When will the new building officially open for business?
