EDINBURG — The RGV community stepped up in a big way last week, offering to foster more than 250 pets in the days leading up to a PVAS shelter evacuation that was required to perform mold remediation. Our Trenton Center, built in 1974, had developed a large area of mold, and keeping our pets and our staff in the building had potential to be harmful to their health.
Typically, a student pilot will first fly solo between 11 and 14 hours on average. Some a little more, some a little less. If you’re the flight instructor, each time you solo a student, you’re usually praying, and you’re anxious. A lot. You know what kind of student pilot they are with you aboard; but when they’re the only one in the cockpit, only time will tell.
Juan Garza, Jr., only 33 years old, has it pretty good for a while. A McAllen cop with 11 years on the force, great benefits, nice pension waiting for him at the end of his tour of duty, but then a funny thing happened to him last Friday. He got busted and charged with two felony counts and three misdemeanors. Oh, and he also lost his job at the PD after being charged with drug possession.
You know, it’s hard to write anything this week in my usual twisted, sarcastic way, simply because it’s hard to stop thinking about the poor kids trapped in that Uvalde classroom, pleading for help from the 911 operator, and yet no one came to their defense.
