Severe water problems

Like most things, we all take water for granted, forgetting that among commodities, the wet stuff is perhaps the most precious of all. Last month, Odessa, Texas, ran out of water for approximately 48 hours, but there was a fix in sight. A break in the main water line could be restored; but what happens when a city, a region, has a water level so low that conservation measures must be implemented? There is no Plan B. That happened back in the late 1990s, and based on current water levels, it may happen again when days set aside for lawn irrigation are limited, and an excess fine is established for water use above certain established levels.

Good ol' San Juan general store

Ed. note: The old San Juan General Store. Not sure where this old store was, photo courtesy of Lee Russell. I know one thing, though, gas sure cost a lot less. By the looks of the gas pumps and the dress worn by the woman, I’m guessing this photo was taken circa early 1940s. Anyone with any info on the store, location and time frame, please call The Advance News Journal at (956) 783-0036 and ask for newspaper janitor Gregg Wendorf. Thanks.
