As officers from multiple local police agencies — including McAllen, San Juan, and the Sheriff’s Office to name but a few — head to Uvalde this week to assist law enforcement agencies with the elevated service demand following last week’s school massacre, news has started to surface about one agent with Border Patrol’s Tactical unit (BORTAC) who put his life on the line to save kids.
You know, it’s hard to write anything this week in my usual twisted, sarcastic way, simply because it’s hard to stop thinking about the poor kids trapped in that Uvalde classroom, pleading for help from the 911 operator, and yet no one came to their defense.

He could be cryptic, demeaning and scary, sending angry messages and photos of guns. If they didn’t respond how he wanted, he sometimes threatened to rape or kidnap them — then laughed it off as some big joke.
