Edinburg library earns the Texas Reads grant

EDINBURG — The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) recently awarded funding to the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library under its Texas Reads Grant program. The program awarded, Storytelling & Story Reading 101 will provide a series of professional development workshops, for staff working with children and young adults by a professional storyteller. Attendees will learn and develop storytelling techniques using their voice, props, puppets, etc. The objective is to create and inspire future generations to love to read, thus creating a more literate community.

Topeka and Kansas: Puppies not places

Topeka, and her brother Kansas, are a couple of energetic 4-month-old Shepherd cross puppies. Both are good-looking dogs, full of enthusiasm for life and affection for people. Now that they’ve been spayed and neutered, they’re ready for forever homes where they can make each day happier for their lucky new people.

Last week, the McAllen Holiday Parade, presented by H-E-B and powered by Bert Ogden & Fiesta Dealerships, parade organizers hit the beach and unveiled new and exciting features of the international-award winning Christmas event, including revealing this year’s theme and announcing South Padre Island Convention & Visitors’ Bureau as a sponsor of the parade.
