Great news for Rio Grande Valley families with sick kids: Driscoll Health System held a groundbreaking in Edinburg on Tuesday for RGV Driscoll Children’s Hospital. The site is located just north of DHR Women’s Hospital near the corner of McColl and Dove Ave.
Remember that story I wrote last week, pointing out that PSJA ISD seems to be in violation of the Texas Public Information Act by refusing to turn over requested information about how much it paid to settle the lawsuit filed by former Assistant Superintendent for Support Services Rene Campos, who sued the district for age discrimination?
When I wrote about so-called white racists two weeks ago and the part AT&T is now playing in this game of pin the tail on the “cracker” (AKA, only white people can be racists), sending its Caucasian employees to a re-education camp of sorts to rid them of their alleged racism and white privilege, I forgot to mention how whites discriminate against their own based on both religion and class/status. Can’t forget to mention that.
There aren’t many, if any, public school districts in relatively conservative, majority Catholic South Texas that are embracing DEI —Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion — to the extent that IDEA Public Schools is incorporating it into its policies under the banner “GAY PRIDE” and its support of the LGBTQ+ community.
Is taking $4 million from the millions intended to help fill the learning-loss gap, courtesy of COVID-19, and using the money to expand Quinta Mazatlan a good idea or not? The deal between McAllen ISD and the City of McAllen has already been struck, so the question is somewhat moot, but moving forward, the question of how to spend COVID-related education relief money will surely be revisited.
