In today’s world, it takes some effort to find some happy news to counter news such as this latest story from The Wall Street Journal (Nov. 20, 2021): “U.S. Covid-19 Deaths in 2021 Surpass 2020’s.”
Time flies or so they say. It was back during an early cold morning in January 1995 when city and other local officials, including this reporter, met at the newly constructed Pharr/Reynosa International Bridge to officially celebrate the completion of what had proven to be a long process of bringing an international bridge to the Hub City (Pharr).
My wife has a childhood friend in north Texas who is more than a little bit distressed because her two daughters and one son-in-law are refusing to get vaccinated for COVID-19. Even more troubling to my wife’s friend, there are grandchildren involved who are also susceptible to the SARS virus. Even more troubling, all three work in the healthcare field, in one way or another. One of the three is an RN.
A good education has always required a partnership between parents, teachers and policymakers. That’s never been more apparent than in the era of COVID-19, and it should guide Texas as we determine the best way to educate future generations.
