Shop Local on Small Business Saturday

As the holiday season approaches, this time of year is especially important for our small business community. As is celebrated every year, Small Business Saturday is an opportunity to support our small businesses in our community this upcoming Saturday, November 28, 2020. We all understand that small businesses have been impacted during the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in closures, loss of customers, and loss of revenue. At the Pharr Economic Development Corporation, we have helped many small businesses in Pharr as they recover from the negative impact of COVID-19. Funds from the CARES Act were used to provide small business grants to cover the cost of business operating expenses. We will continue to support our business community in Pharr in every way we can. This weekend, I encourage all residents and families to remember to shop local, shop small, and help out our business community in Pharr.

Covid Cases Mortalities: Hidalgo Co. #1

The good news is, as of early this week, Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra is recovering from COVID-19. The bad news is, some people are still denying the disease even exists, and/or not taking the necessary precautions to slow its spread. U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) even tweeted a silhouette of a Thanksgiving turkey and wrote: “Come and get it.” This while the CDC and state officials are warning that the holiday can turn into a super-spreader event if people don’t take the SARS-CoV-2 virus as seriously as they should.
