Stacking the deck

Donald Trump is a very caring individual and is often attacked or ignored when he shows that aspect of his character. When, for example, he was in Walter Reed Hospital and wished to show his appreciation to well-wishers outside by being driven around the perimeter of the grounds and greeting them, he was attacked for endangering his driver (who was in a sealed off portion of the limo). When he had pizza delivered to the group every 45 minutes, the press largely ignored the gesture. When he got sick, reporters generally blamed him for not taking precautions, although it’s very possible the debate commission was at least to some extent at fault for not screening those present. Ah, the debate commission.

Marriage: Contract or Covenant?

There’s absolutely no shortage of life issues plaguing this sin-infested world we live in, yet one has become more pervasive than ever: divorce. Over half of all marriages end in divorce. The “sanctity of marriage” in modern culture is more like the “sanctimony of marriage.” Much of this due not only to a narcissistic society that considers everything disposable—including relationships—but to the widespread ignorance of the definition of marriage by design in Genesis 2:24 (then see “adultery” in Exodus 20:14; this isn’t just an “Old Testament God” thing, either—read what Jesus says about the Commandments in Matthew 22:36-40). Not surprising to me, a pastor, is just how many couples are already married before their wedding day!

The debate

The first debate has concluded, but the controversy lingers on. The press seems particularly miffed that President Trump interrupted Joe Biden 73 times during the debate (although Biden was the one who started the interruption fest). That same press took a totally different attitude a few years back when Biden was debating Paul Ryan in the vice-presidential debate and interrupted Ryan 82 times. Then he was simply making the debate “lively.” I guess the fact that Trump interrupted back when Biden tried the same tactic brought the liveliness to overload proportions.
