The Senior Texas Softball League is preparing for the 2023 season and is looking for men and women over 55 to add to its 10 teams.

There’s a book and movie out there — “Soul Surfer” — about the life of Bethany Hamilton, the professional surfer who lives in Hawaii, whose left arm was bitten off during a shark attack in 2003. On Halloween, no less. Her story (probably brought to mind thanks to recent shark attacks on the East Coast) got me thinking about other handicapped athletes who have overcome tremendous odds to persevere despite the hand life has dealt them.
