For Baylor University, my son’s alma mater, let’s just say that patience sometimes pays off, which became evident Monday night when its men’s basketball team captured the Men’s Basketball National Championship.
When it came to softball, the 1938 Brownsville Pan American Airways Aviators were riding high on top of Valley softball circles.
SAN JUAN – Congratulations to all Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD Area qualifiers from the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Field 31-6A District Meet held March 29-31, 2021.
PHARR – Jaylah Martinez has been training in the shot put and discus from the early age of five years old. Her track & field experience includes being crowned regional champion and state champion. She also went on to compete at nationals in Grand Rapids, Mich., in the 12-and-under division where she became the national champion in both the shot put and discus events.
One of my favorite sporting events is almost here – the annual Masters Tournament. Thanks to COVID, last year was a bust. Instead of April, the tourney was finally played in November sans spectators. Good news was, one of my favorite golfers, Dustin Johnson, won. Always liked that guy. This year, it’s back to its usual April time slot when Bobby Jones’ Augusta National grounds are at their most beautiful.
