My longtime buddy, Stuart Klein, passed away Sunday, and I have to say, I’m going to miss visiting with the guy who probably framed more diplomas, family photos, at the gallery he and his wife, Sylvia, owned and operated for so many years on Main Street just south of the old library – S. Klein Gallery.
I can’t remember the name of Houston Hobby’s major FBO (fixed base operator) in the late 1970s, early 1980s, but it was the main one where most transient general aviation pulled up to park, top off the gas tanks, and drop off or pick up passengers. It was, in fact, the same FBO where I was sitting one day waiting for some charter passengers to return when I looked up and saw George H.W. Bush walk through the door with his wife, Barbara, and their Secret Service Detail. It was during the 1980 GOP primary season, and Bush was in a fight against Reagan to win the presidential primary. For him, Houston was home base.
It’s official. The City of Pharr is now in the ambulance business after the bankrupt company it offered to purchase for approximately $1 million has gained approval of the federal bankruptcy judge overseeing it, Houston-based David R. Jones.
