An Ode to Deacon Bud

The question of just exactly when the Lord began framing me for pastoral service is a tough one to answer, as I can’t think of a specific time when finding out more about Him and church became a priority for me. But if I had to pin down one event that may have been the catalyst for a relationship with Christ and The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS), it would have to be a day in January 1985 when God placed a beautiful sailor in my path in Japan during my first tour in the Navy. Before the year was out we were married.

Heartworm, a spaghetti-like worm that grows in a dog’s heart, is a common condition in Southern states and is spread by mosquitos. In fact, it affects almost one quarter of adult dogs at the shelter. Preventing the illness is easy with a once-monthly preventative. However, treating the illness is far more expensive, costing approximately $125 per pet.

City of Pharr, Connect Humanity, and Region One ESC: $10 million fund

The City of Pharr, Connect Humanity, a non-profit fund for digital equity, and Region One ESC held a joint press conference last week to announce their plans to launch a $10 Million fund to invest in the digitalization of businesses in the Texas Rio Grande Valley in a bid to drive economic growth. The fund will invest in high-speed connectivity, digital transformation, and skills development for businesses in Hidalgo and Cameron counties.
