Editor’s note: It’s almost college football time again, and to highlight that, someone sent in these Aggie jokes. Thankfully, Texas A&M Aggies have a sense of humor or else The Advance News would be in trouble. Whoop.

Pharr, Texas – The Greater Pharr Chamber of Commerce and City of Pharr are proud to announce the Miss Pharr Scholarship Pageant 2021. Two lucky winners will have the opportunity to earn the title of Miss Pharr and Miss Pharr Teen along with a scholarship. They will join the titleholders of the Miss Pharr Jr. Teen and Miss Pharr Pre-Teen in representing the city at events throughout the year. The pageant will take place at 6:00 pm on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the Pepe Salinas Civic Center (1011 W. Kelly Ave. Pharr, TX 78577).

This week Cinderella is featuring a couple of great pets who are longing for a home of their own. Howdy Doggy is a Catahoula Leopard Dog who is just over a year old. He’s a medium sized boy who tips the scales at about 35 pounds. He got his name from a combination of sources, first because he loves other dogs and is always eager to greet them and invite them to play, and second because he has freckles on his muzzle, reminding our director of Howdy Doody, the long ago sidekick of Buffalo Bob.
