Schools invited to explore with the Lorax at Quinta Mazatlán

The Dr. Seuss classic book, The Lorax, is whimsically displayed at Quinta Mazatlán for a quarter mile Walk & Read in the Woods. School groups are invited for a morning outdoor educational field trip with outdoor park lunch areas provided with reservations. The Lorax Trail is presented by H-E-B to encourage kids to speak for themselves and the environment, with a little help from the Lorax!

Free acting & screenwriting workshops for veterans and their families

The Pharr Community Theater Co., supported by Art Spark Texas through a Quality-of-Life grant from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation will offer free workshop classes to Veterans and Their Families. The workshops will run from May 17, 2021 through June 25, 2021 and will consist of 2 one-hour classes per week for the first ten students that register by May 14.

City of McAllen workshop to air live on MCN 1300

As of Monday, May 10, 2021, the City of McAllen began airing its 4:00 p.m. McAllen City Commission workshop live. McAllen broadcasts can be found on MCN channel 1300 for McAllen Spectrum cable subscribers, as well as all of its streaming platforms, including the City of McAllen website at www.mcallen.net; the McAllen 3-1-1 mobile app; and on KAZH-LP, Channel 57.1, the low-power over the air antenna channel. Additionally, both the workshop and meeting will be livestreaming on the City of McAllen’s You Tube channel. Finally, McAllen Spectrum cable subscribers can finally enable real-time closed captions for both live streams.

Edinburg CISD reveals District Teachers of the Year

EDINBURG – The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District revealed on May 6 that the 2021-2022 District Elementary Teacher of the Year is Miguel Leija, and the District Secondary Teacher of the Year is Angela Rodriguez during a livestreamed awards ceremony.

Looking for a New Flame or a Good Dog?

Flame is a very handsome 2 year old flame point Siamese cross with striking pale blue eyes. He’s also one of the most affectionate cats around, if you’re looking for a cuddly cat. He is playful and loves to amuse himself with his toys but he likes attention and affection from a human much more. He’s a good-sized boy, weighing in at about 10 pounds--just the right size for a lap! He’ll be a great companion for a cat-loving person for many years to come.
