Now is really not the best time to adopt a new pet. With all the hustle and bustle of holiday celebrations, it’s hard for the pet to adjust to life in his/her new home. That said, Cinderella has so many good dogs and cats — a lot of them far past kitten or puppyhood — who would be wonderful pets that could be adopted now, provided there’s not a lot of activity going on at your house this time of year and that you would have time to devote to getting them adjusted. Or you could consider adopting after the New Year. One caveat is that pets should never be adopted as gifts for another person. The pet-pet owner relationship is one that depends on the pet owner choosing the animal for themself.

HUB City Toastmasters meets each Wednesday at the Pharr Memorial Library, 121 E. Cherokee, second floor, from noon until 1 p.m. Visitors are welcome.
