Local weather grows more crazy

Just as some workmen were repairing the eightfoot double-planked fence in our backyard last week, courtesy of the crazy violent storm that blew through here two weeks ago, news broke over the weekend that an EF1 tornado with speeds between 86 and 105 mph touched down in Laguna Heights along Hwy 100 on the way to South Padre last Saturday, sadly taking the life of one person and sending 11 others to local hospitals.

2015’s Long-Shot Mayor Wins Big

Funny how things change. Back in 2015, the general consensus in the Pharr community was that Adan Farias would succeed longtime Pharr Mayor Leopoldo “Polo” Palacios as mayor, and that his slate, “Pharr First,” would also win, which included longtime City Commissioner and close friend “Art” Cortez, “Jimmy” Garza, and newcomer Mario Bracamontes.
