Last week brought us more bad, sad news south of the border and only got worse at the start of this week. Since the start of Mexico’s official war against the drug cartels began in December 2006, more than 350,000 homicides have been reported, while the government reports the disappearance of more than 85,000 people. Not only are more people drinking and driving and texting these days, according to data released earlier this year by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), but they’re also smoking pot while behind the wheel. Call it a three-fer. What can possibly go wrong?
Sadly, we have all seen them. Animals left outside, tied to a tree, even though a cold front has blown through the Rio Grande Valley and rain is falling. With no shelter, the animals suffer, while their uncaring owners sit inside their comfortable abodes.

Go figure.
AUSTIN — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for December, 12.4 percent more than in December 2021.
