DPS Seeks Public’s Assistance in 1992 Cold Case Killing in Refugio County

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is asking for the public’s help identifying a woman homicide victim. It’s hoped that by identifying the woman the perpetrator can be brought to justice. An increased reward of up to $6,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible for her death if the tip is received before the next featured Texas Rangers cold case is announced. (A $3,000 reward for information leading to an arrest is routinely offered on all cases on the Texas Rangers Unsolved Homicides website.)

Hidalgo health department reports 12 more deaths related to COVID-19 and 143 positive cases

EDINBURG – Officials with the Hidalgo County Health and Human Services Department reported 12 more deaths related to COVID-19 and 143 new known positive cases of the virus, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Monday. The results are a total of 1,853 recorded deaths related to the outbreak and 33,495 known positive cases.

Judge Cortez: Hidalgo County Bars not to immediately reopen

EDINBURG – After consulting with local health care experts who cited Center for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines that bars remain a high-risk venue for the spread of COVID-19, as well as speaking with the mayors of the county’s 22 municipalities, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez has decided it is premature to allow bars in the county to reopen.
