City of San Juan Announces it is Lowering the Tax Rate while Investing in Repaving Streets and New Heavy Equipment

SAN JUAN – San Juan City leaders have been hard at work investing in city infrastructure projects and resources during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through sound financial stewardship, city leaders have been able to focus on obtaining resources to enhance city services, and all to no extra costs to citizens. City officials announced earlier this month that the city will not be raising taxes and in fact, for the first time since 2013, the San Juan City Commission will be lowering the tax rate from 0.6993 to 0.6926.

Thirty more die from complications of COVID-19; 166 more test positive

EDINBURG – Over a three-day period, 30 more people in Hidalgo County died from COVID-19 related complications and 166 more people tested positive, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Monday.

6th Annual “Purple Day” virtual press conference

EDINBURG – The Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, in collaboration with the Texas Council on Family Violence, the Justice Alert Technology and Mujeres Unidas, will commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month with the 6th Annual “Purple Day” virtual press conference on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to noon. DPS Announces Saturday Apts. through December

AUSTIN – At the direction of Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is announcing Saturday appointment availability through the end of the year. Many driver license (DL) officesacross the state will be offering Saturday appointments for customers needing to renew or replace their Texas DL or ID cards only.

Edinburg PD arrests murder suspect

EDINBURG - On September 16, 2020 Edinburg resident 35-year-old Lucinda Diaz was arrested and charged with murder following the investigation for the suspicious death of her husband, 31 year old Craig Chastain. On September 5th, 2020 at approximately 9:28 p.m Edinburg police responded to The Village apartments at 5228 S. Sugar Rd in reference to a reported suicide attempt. When officers arrived on scene they observed Chastain unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the back of the head. Diaz was escorted to the Edinburg police department where she voluntarily came to provide her account of what happened.
