Palmview Awarded $300,000 Grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife for Nature Park

PALMVIEW – The City of Palmview was recently notified by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) that it has been awarded a $300,000 Outdoor Recreational Grant for the Palmview Nature Park. Located near Abram Rd and Business 83 in the southwestern part of the city, the proposed conceptual site plan for the park includes a 2-acre conservation area, picnic areas, exercise areas, play structures, and walking trails.

Sunday Speaker Series presentation to highlight 50 years since San Juan plane crash

EDINBURG — On Oct. 23, 1970, Frank B. Alexander crashed a small plane into the Shrine of San Juan Roman Catholic Church, now site of the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle. This incident is the subject for the next Sunday Speaker Series Online presentation, a Museum of South Texas History program. Associate Education officer Joseph Fox will present “The Story of the 1970 San Juan Plane Crash” at 2 p.m. Sept. 13 on Facebook Live.

EDINBURG – The Labor Day holiday saw a total of 23 additional COVID-19 related deaths and 141 more positive cases of the virus, Hidalgo County Judge Rich ard F. Cortez said Monday.

When I was a kid I remember watching programs about Houdini the magician on TV. At some point I think I even wanted to be a magician. Occasionally I would try and do a magic card trick but I was never very good. I guess if I had wanted to be good at it I should have practiced. Many wild animals have behaviors and adaptations that seem magical to me. Yet they don’t need to practice these special behaviors because, for them, it’s instinctive.
